The Open Data Kit (ODK) is a technology that was started by Google in 2008. Since then it has become a widely used technology for data collection using Android devices. The reason for its popularity is two fold: first it is free and second it is very flexible and powerful.
The GeoODK Collect application, is an extension of this work that has enhanced the spatial data gathering from simple points, found in the ODK Collect application to lines and polygons. With the LOUIS Toolkit we have simplified the form creation process so that users can simply define the fields they want and their order and the forms are available for download. GeoODK is available to use with the Heritage module for Traditional Knowledge and the Layers module for other spatial data within the LOUIS Toolkit.
